Newsletter 1 – New website, new reports and recent regulatory developments

23 August 2018

Hello

Thanks for signing up to our new newsletter.

In this update, we highlight three developments:

New website – as some of you might have seen, we have recently launched our new website. You can now find more information on our political risk and responsible investment advisory services. You can also download some examples of our reports and rankings, including last year’s Kigoda Responsible Investment Ranking.

New reports – We have recently completed a report which analyses Sasol’s climate-related impacts, and one on the South African political dynamics surrounding the Sibanye-Stillwater/Lonmin deal. These are available to clients or contact us for more information.

Our report Milking It? ESG assessment of Emerging Market Dairy Companies, which was released earlier this year, is now freely available. The report analyses a number of material risk factors at emerging dairy companies, including environmental issues, food safety and animal welfare. It also assesses the emerging issue of added sugar, and considers which companies are best positioned to maximise the opportunity of shifting their portfolio from liquid milk to higher value dairy products.

The emerging market companies considered in the report are China Mengniu Dairy Company Limited; Clover Industries Limited; Dutch Lady Milk Industries Berhad; Fan Milk Limited; Grupo LALA SAB de CV; Juhayna Food Industries; Parag Milk Foods Ltd; Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk); and Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group Co Ltd (Yili).

Update on state of responsible investment in South Africa – our recent article “Improved disclosure required to advance responsible investment practices in South Africa” looks at the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) call for comments on a draft directive on sustainability reporting and disclosure requirements. It argues that the FSCA needs to do more to stay at the forefront of developments, particularly in terms of addressing climate change.

Thanks for your support.
